Pencak Silat is a collective name of martial arts with multiple forms based on the location of origins. Indonesia is collection of islands, where most of the islands practice their own form of Pencak Silat. The different styles are specifically suited to their environment and use techniques most beneficial to that situation. Generally speaking the most common combat methods are applied such as fists, kicks, grappling techniques, and weapons usage. Focus on the methods differs per style, whereas some styles practice mostly grappling techniques, others focus more on elbows and knees. The weapons most associated with Pencak Silat are the kris, kerambit, sickle, machete and staff. Because the majority of South-east Asia practiced agro-culture the weapons used were mostly gardening tools.
